Give to the Mariandale Annual Appeal!

Why give to the Center at Mariandale?

We are surrounded by poverty and suffering. There are many faces of poverty. There are those lacking the most basic material means of subsistence. There are those who are socially marginalized who lack the means to give voice to their dignity and rights. Look around our neighborhood and this is what you will see:

• In Westchester County alone, over 79,000 people rely on SNAP to feed their families, and 11% of all children suffer from food insecurity.
• Over 33% of residents in Ossining lack access to a grocery store, with the USDA labeling the community as “food desert.”
• More than 1,500 of our neighbors are homeless.
• Political refugees who live in our community, on our country’s promise of safety, fear that they will be sent back to the dangerous conditions they escaped.

Pope Leo XIV reminds us that when we see these “wounded faces of the poor, we see the suffering of the innocent and, therefore, the suffering of Christ himself.”

You can help ease our neighbors’ suffering.

• With your gift, you will harvest hundreds of pounds of organic produce from Mariandale’s garden for local food pantries.
• With your gift, you will serve warm meals and provide overnight shelter at Mariandale during the brutal winter months through the Emergency Shelter Partnership.
• With your gift, you will house political refugees at Mariandale as they achieve the means to succeed independently in our community.
• With your gift, you will mobilize scores of college students during weeklong immersion experiences where they serve the poor and learn to be leaders who address the root causes of poverty.
• With your gift, you will give voice, dignity, acceptance, and spiritual and material support to the many who are marginalized in our community – immigrants, LGBT persons, the formerly incarcerated, the handicapped, and formerly homeless or addicted.

For 75 years, our Dominican Sisters have soldiered against material, moral and spiritual poverty around Mariandale. Though the number of sisters in ministry has decreased, our neighbors’ needs have only increased. It is the call of the Center at Mariandale to take up the mantle of the sisters’ legacy of loving and serving the poor. Your generosity sustains Mariandale and this legacy of the Dominican Sisters of Hope.

Mariandale’s neighbors need our help, and we must not fail them. Thank you for seeing their poverty and giving so generously so that we can love and serve them.

With deep gratitude,
