Dominican Spirituality Offerings

Mariandale bears proudly the over 800-year-old tradition of ministry inspired by the life of St. Dominic, Dominic Guzman (1171-1221).   Person of God, preacher, seeker of truth, contemplative, lover of the poor, movement founder – Dominic lived a life of prayer, study and reflection which was foundational to his active ministry of preaching and service to those in need.  Responsive to the signs of the times, Dominic was resolute in traveling the countryside of Europe sharing the good news of his faith, one that embraced both the material and the spiritual challenges of this world.  His zeal was contagious, inspiring the founding of schools, convents, monasteries and retreat house.

Mariandale lifts up the Dominican tradition through its many programs centered on contemplative practice, study of the pressing social and ecological needs of the world, and the active work of healing and preaching hope.

Each year the Center sponsors a program that highlights the Dominican commitment to Truth.  Likewise around the time of her feast day in April, the Center celebrates the 14th century Dominican and Doctor of the Church, St. Catherine of Siena, through an annual environmental summit.  Finally in November, Mariandale turns to the exemplary life of Dominican brother, Martin de Porres, first black saint of the Americas, to focus on the need for racial healing in the church and world.
