Psychology and Spirituality of Thomas Keating

Thomas Keating and the Trappist’s have made an enormous contribution to the rediscovery of contemplative life for Christians. Through his vision and commitment, centering prayer has deepened and renewed the prayer lives of countless men and women. This three-day conference will study the psychological and spiritual underpinnings of renewed contemplative life. Centering prayer will be included throughout the days.

Don Bisson, FMS is a Marist Brother, known both nationally and internationally for his work as a retreat director and presenter in the area of spirituality and Jungian psychology. He has a Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, CA.

Buddhist Christian Dialogue: New Seeds of Contemplation

With dialogue, we continue to explore our spiritual paths, stressing the many areas of collaboration and understanding. This semi-annual series explores the many similarities between these two traditions. Using the ideas and spiritual teaching of the book “New Seeds of Contemplation” by Thomas Merton as a starting point, we will explore why they are still very pertinent to our current time. Participants do not have to have read the book in order to attend.

About the Presenters: 

Fernando Camacho, MD is an ordained lay Buddhist priest of the Dharma Teacher Order, a Western group of Vietnamese Zen lineage committed to developing ecumenical bridges and relationships across all religious traditions. Fernando is a practicing medical oncologist in the Bronx and is the Director of the Community Oncology Program of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care.

Maeve Eng-Wong, LCSW, RYT is an ordained lay Buddhist priest in the Dharma Teacher Order, a Western group of Vietnamese Zen lineage committed to developing ecumenical bridges and relationships across religious traditions. Maeve is a psychotherapist in private practice in Garrison and Cold Spring, NY.
