When Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican youth return to their ancestral homeland, an unexpected partnership with Catholic sisters transforms both groups—proving that healing intergenerational trauma begins with choosing hope over history. Together, they find common ground in the seven generations principle: the idea that decisions made today should allow seven generations in the future to thrive.

The Seven Generations of Hope film screening and panel discussion at the Bedford Playhouse will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 6:30pm. Get your tickets NOW for this exciting screening and discussion, with folks from Westchester Land Trust, Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican nation, Dominican Sisters of Hope Land Trust Committee, the New York Community Trust, the Center at Mariandale, and more a part of the panel discussion.

There will be a reception following the film and panel discussion. We hope to see you there!

Seven Generations of Hope Director’s Statement, from Joe Plante of New Media Storytellers:

The healing I have witnessed in capturing this story has extended far beyond the frame—it has reached deep into my own spirit. The Dominican Sisters of Hope have shown me what it means to act from the heart and soul, to honor the greater whole over institutional tradition. The relationships I have formed with members of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans have taught me the transformative power of our stories—the ones we tell others, and the ones we tell ourselves.

Like my Indigenous friends, I am learning to remember: to honor my ancestors and leave a better world for my descendants. To be trusted with this story is the honor of my life, and I am committed to continuing to document this journey as it unfolds across generations.

Joe Plante, Director/Producer/Cinematographer/Editor
